“Out of sight, out of mind.” This is often the experience with the buried aspects of any valuable asset. Corrosion of rebar in foundations and other buried steel components of other high value assets is a very real aspect requiring consideration.
The soil attributes or water chemistry should be the first aspect evaluated. Thereafter a comprehensive review of possible interference currents should be undertaken. With this data in hand, Isinyithi will undertake a risk analysis to determine the necessity for additional corrosion protection. Obviously, if the structure is already in situ, a potential survey will provide a further measure of comfort.
Customised corrosion protection system
For Isinyithi to design a customised corrosion protection system for any buried structure, the following information will be required:
- surface area of buried steel
- information regarding the immediate environment (such as concrete garde)
- geographical location
- client's preferred life expectancy and any other useful information
